BUTTERFLY GATE + BOOK NOOK
CLEMSON SoA + CBA Bootcamp
The Butterfly Garden Gate is an illustrative and creative endeavor that was proposed by Enough Pie, who wanted an entrance that invited all Charleston community members to interact and participate in the garden. The gate was built primarily of found pieces of metal that were welded, bent and ground together. Concrete Couch from Colorado Springs lead the project, teaching bootcamp participants from across the nation and Clemson University graduate and undergraduate students, how to engage community members in the design and building process. Participants participated in a series of mock and real community meetings and interactive activities, and learned how to weld, bend and grind metal, in order to build the gate.
The project was just 5 days, beginning with initial ideas, to design, and metal working tutorials, to community meeting, then building and unveiling the Butterfly Garden Gate. Each individual involved in this project came from a different walk of life, who brought different perspectives and skills that contributed to the entrance that is the Butterfly Garden Gate.
